I am so honored to have been interviewed by my friend Tina VanDenburg on her In Kinship podcast last week!
But I have to admit, I am also a little embarrassed. There is really nothing specific that I am extra embarrassed about (okay well except for accidentally – yet confidently – stating that I drink a quart of water before my coffee, when it is actually only a pint), but it is just nerve wracking putting yourself out there into the world! This podcast was recorded live and unedited, so all spoken words were written in ink, not graphite. I am thoroughly impressed that Tina does this on a regular basis, and it makes me feel more brave about sharing this bit of myself.
This is our second attempt at recording a podcast interview – the first was back in the winter/early spring of 2021. I gotta say, during that interview, I found myself feeling so awkward and forgetting how to talk to people coming out of a rural Michigan winter still during the height of social distancing. Thankfully, the recording quality turned out to be pretty bad due to my internet connection, so that episode never made it on the air!
This time, I suggested we record in-person together at her home studio. She agreed even if it was a bit of a curve ball for her, but ultimately, I feel like we were both happy with the decision as we had time to chat and tour her lovely homestead and get comfortable before the live recording began – and no connectivity glitches. I also went into the interview this time with a page of notes on my thoughts on the questions she had sent me ahead of time as well as an intention to share the things that only I can say, the experiences and philosophies that are unique to me – this is a challenge for me, because I usually follow the less-is-more approach when speaking out loud!!
I also broke the news about some very exciting developments in my professional art life – there are a few that span from far flung exhibits to retreat weekends to travel opportunities! So give it a listen to be one of the first to know (or head over to my patreon and become a paid subscriber for even more details). Please do comment on this post or send me a message to let me know what you think or if you want to be involved in any of these exciting opportunities 🙂
