Weaving and Dyeing in Northern Lower Michigan for Two Decades.
“Jasmine makes beautiful handwoven items”
-Charlie Rovenko of Windy Acres Fiber Mill
Exploring the worlds of weaving and dyeing for two decades, I enjoy the complexity of these tactile arts which I express under the name Howl at the Loom. My work seeks to help people remember the essence of the material world by re-imagining traditional textile methods. I find joy in teaching my craft to others and create work that marries past techniques and experience through integration of natural and found materials.
“Jas, you are a great teacher. You are knowledegable, excited, and clear.”
-Satisfied Student
Deeply rooted in the Jordan River watershed in which my family has lived for generations, I am raising my family and animals on a forested glacial ridge between the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix and Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan. As the secretary of the board of Wagbo Peace Center and head of the Fiber + Folk Classroom committee, it is my honor to serve and build community.
I hold an Associate of Arts and Certificate in Textiles from North Central Michigan College and have studied facets of fiber art under Shanna Robinson, India Flint, Alissa Allen, Mary Zicafoose, Elin Noble, Irit Dulman, and Rebecca Winter.
